Après avoir exploré la relation du sujet aux lieux d’origine dans les narrations contemporaines au cours d’un premier cycle de conférences Home : Heaven and Hell, HOME pousse cette fois l’enquête du côté de la reconstruction d’un imaginaire domestique. Quel est ce nouveau foyer qui suit l’errance, l’exil ou la migration ?
Portant cette fois le titre Home Away From Home, ce deuxième cycle de séminaires souhaite interroger les représentations littéraires et artistiques contemporaines des espaces adoptés afin de comprendre comment ceux-ci se construisent en interaction avec un sujet qui voit aboutir sa quête d’un territoire.
À quel point cette réappropriation de l’espace, qui fait suite au mouvement, agit-elle sur la définition même de « home » – si tant est qu’un tel concept soit possible ? Loin du foyer familial idéal ou infernal qu’il a quitté – volontairement ou non –, quels rapports le sujet entretient-il avec ce lieu de (ré)enracinement ? En quoi ces relations sont-elles constituantes ou déstructurantes pour l’individu ? Quelle relation esthétique, sensorielle et mémorielle noue-t-il avec ce domicile qu’il tente de faire sien ? Quels aménagements entreprend-il en termes d’espace psychique ou physique ? Quels changements, en retour, sa réinstallation produit-elle sur son nouvel environnement au niveau tant organisationnel, social qu’idéologique ? Et, enfin, quels rôles jouent la littérature et les arts dans cette appropriation d’une spatialité autre ?
Portées sur un imaginaire littéraire et artistique contemporain à la recherche d’un nouvel enracinement dans un lieu donné ou souhaité, toutes ces questions ne sont qu’indicatives, et chacune d’elles nécessite l’étude d’un corpus précis. Dans le sillage de la première édition de HOME, l’interdisciplinarité est vivement encouragée. Toute proposition de communication en sciences humaines et sociales sera la bienvenue.
Le séminaire Home Away From Home aura lieu le 29 à l’Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles et le 30 avril 2019 à l’Université libre de Bruxelles. Les langues de travail seront le français et l’anglais. Une publication des actes est envisagée.
Les propositions de communication (en anglais ou français) devront comporter un titre, un résumé de 200 mots maximum qui précise clairement le corpus étudié, une bibliographie critique, une notice bio-bibliographique de 5 lignes (comprenant le nom, l’appartenance institutionnelle et l’adresse électronique). Elles sont à envoyer par courriel électronique à Seminaires.Home@ulb.ac.be d’ici le 25 mars 2019.

Call for presentations
After a first series of seminars called Home : Heaven and Hell that explored the relations of a subject to his places of origin in contemporary narratives, a next series of HOME will dwell on the reconstruction of an imagined home. What characterizes this new home that follows the wandering, exile or migration?
This time under the title of Home Away From Home, a second series of seminars wishes to examine present-day literary and artistic representations of adopted spaces as to understand how these representations emerge in interaction with a subject who is confronted with a territorial quest that is coming to an end.
At what point does this post-movement reappropriation of space starts to alter the very definition of « home » - if such a concept, a post-movement home is conceivable at all? Far away from the ideal or infernal family home, left behind, voluntarily or not, what kind of relationships does the subject have with this new place of (re-)settlement? To what extend are these relations constituent, formative or destabilizing, destructive for the individual? What kind of aesthetic, sensory or memory bonds does the subject establish with this residence that he tries to make his? What kind of arrangements does he make to both the physical or psychic spaces ? What impact does his resettlement have on his new surroundings, organizational, social or ideological ? And, finally, what kind of roles do literature and the arts play in the appropriation of a different kind of spatiality?
The focal point for this second series of seminars is the present-day literary and artistic imagination aiming for a new rootedness in an actual or desired place. Yet, the above-mentioned questions are merely indicative, and each of them requires the study of a precise corpus. As for the first edition of HOME, interdisciplinarity is strongly encouraged. All proposals from the fields of the humanities and social sciences are warmly welcomed.
The seminars Home Away From Home will take place at Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles (Monday 29/04) and at Université libre de Bruxelles (Tuesday 30/04). Working languages will be English and French. A publication of the proceedings will be considered.
Proposals in French or English should consist of: a title, an abstract of 200 words that clearly states the corpus studied, a critical bibliography and a 5 lines bio-bibliographic record mentioning name, institution of affiliation and e-mail address. Proposals should be send to Seminaires.Home@ulb.ac.be before 25 March 2019.
